How long will it take to receive my order?
You should expect your order in 2-4 weeks. When it is in stock in the correct color it will be shipped within two days and you should receive it in about a week. When it is not in stock in the correct color we will make your order when we receive it, and you should expect it in about two weeks. The reason for this is that we stock each item in a variety of colors, but can't stock every color all of the time.
How do I hang this?
If the piece does
not have an additional hanger welded on, we suggest using
finishing nails (nails without large heads). On every piece
there is a part that is closest to the wall that will act
a natural "hanger" such as the toes of a lizard.
You should use it to hang the piece on nails.
How is the metalwork cut?
We use a machine called a waterjet. It cuts virtually any material by using water under extremely high pressure (40,000 psi), with fine-grained garnet added to the high-preassure water stream as an abrasive. This high pressure abrasion easily cuts through the material. Any additional freehand cutting during the construction of freeform, or custom works are accomplished by using a handheld plasma torch.
How do you finish your work?
We use a specialized
airbrush technique that was developed by us, specifically
for our metalwork. It is an air-drying acrylic paint. It is
not a "baked on" enamel finish.
Can the artwork go outside?
Yes. The work is coated with clear polyurethane to protect it from the sun and rain.
Will it rust?
The work that is painted will not rust unless it gets deeply scratched. The work that is left raw (Rock Men, Plant Sticks, Garden Sticks, etc.), will rust if left outside or in a damp environment. However, they are designed to rust and look fine in the garden with rusty-earthy tones. If you prefer the color of raw steel but do not want it to rust, you can spray it with several light coats of clear lacquer or polyurethane.
What materials are used?
We use mild steel for the majority of the work. Occasionally we use stainless steel, copper, bones, wood, or other found materials for special pieces.
Do you heat bend the metal?
No, we use good old-fashioned pliers and elbow grease.
Will you do custom work?
Yes. If you have a design you are interested in having cut, or a concept you’d like to have developed with our assistance, please email us at Info@metalmorphosis.biz.
Can I have a design enlarged?
Absolutely. For pricing, please email us with size requests at Info@metalmorphosis.biz.
Will you do custom colors?
You can have any piece on the website done in any of the eighteen Color Options, at no additional charge, with the exception of the Rock Men or Plant/Garden Sticks. The Plant/Garden Sticks can be done in a finish for an additional charge (please email Info@metalmorphosis.biz if interested). We will not put a finish on the Rock Men for the simple reason that putting the rock in his arms will scratch the finish, and therefore rust.
Will I need to re-clear coat the work?
You shouldn't have
to unless it gets scratched. But if you would like to re-clear
coat the work anyway, we recommend using several light coats
of a clear lacquer or polyurethane.
What other products do you offer?
Additional items we
produce that may not yet be pictured on the website include:
key racks, coat racks, pins (broaches), picture frames, mirrors,
storefront signs, custom tile cutting, flagstone tables, trophies,
many other unique and one-of-a-kind furniture and sculptures,
including the signed and numbered Tex-Tile series of hand
cut textured steel squares by Jason Kihl.
